and the wall came tumbling down . . .

Every year we have a " Boekenweek". They organise this week to keep people reading and to learn new readers the joy of reading. If you buy for a certain amount of money books you get a special book free. Every year another writer is asked to write that book that they give free with the books you bought. And there is an extra bonus because in that book is also a free train ticket on the last Sunday of the "Boekenweek".The last day, you can go by train were ever you want as long as you don't cross the border.
That means full trains, many people with books or Ereaders in the train. And when the weather is remarkable better than forecast it's crowded in the train.
So when I had to go to Maastricht and planned long ago that date I now knowI better had chosen for another day.
Maastricht is one of the oldest cities we have. And as many old cities it's surrounded by walls. A part of that wall has fallen down, so I thought why not go there and take a look. Luckily it's only a small part and it was recently renovated, so I think something went wrong.
When the sun shines and the temperature rises people search for nature. They want to enjoy the sunbeams so you have to be outdoors. Luckily Maastricht has beautiful parks to enjoy the sun.
But my favourite place is a chapel on the Lieve Vrouweplein. When you walk in the sounds of the city simply disappear and because it was a Sunday morning many people visit the church and the chapel, and have a talk when leaving the church, maybe making an appointment where to eat or have a drink. After all this is Maastricht, the city where people enjoy the good things of life.
Makes me think of the days long ago when I was young.
(Yes, I have a good memory)
